Into The Weekend: Winter Solstice Mobiles at Oil and Cotton, Crafting With Etsy Dallas, and Posters of Paris at the DMA

After a rather insane work/school week, I’m craving some quality time with my girlies…big time. In between a little candy making (we’re going to attempt these pistachio truffles and this rosemary pecan bark) and some holiday gift crafting (string art for the cousins), here’s what’s on the agenda…

Winter Solstice Mobile Workshop at Oil and Cotton
If I make it out of work at a decent hour tonight, we’ll hit Oil and Cotton from 5:30-7 p.m. for some mobile making. The workshop, led by Courtney Pinkerton, is designed to provide families with a bit of bonding in the midst of the holiday mayhem as they use bundled herbs, dried fruits, evergreen boughs, and shiny decorations to make aromatic creations. The cost is $40 + $5 for additional family members, and all ages are welcome.

Etsy Dallas Craft Event at NorthPark
Then tomorrow from 2-3 p.m. at Bookmarks library in NorthPark, Etsy Dallas will be hosting a free kid-friendly crafts event. Per the lovely and creative folks in charge of the event, these won’t be just any old crafts… think: origami Hanukah garlands, washi tape Christmas cards, and melted snowmen glass globe ornaments. (They had me at washi tape cards…Friends, I love me some washi tape, I’m not gonna lie.)

Posters of Paris exhibition Studio Creations
Finally on Sunday we’ll head to the DMA for another swing through the Posters of Paris: Toulouse-Lautrec & His Contemporaries exhibit and the design your own poster activity. I took my younger daughter a couple of weeks ago, and we had a complete blast making our own Toulouse-Lautrec-inspired creations. Now it’s the nine year old’s turn. Admission to the museum is free (yay Maxwell Anderson!), but the Posters of Paris exhibit costs $14 for adults and $9 for kiddos (note: it isn’t necessary to purchase a ticket for the exhibition in order to create a poster.)

Happy weekend!
