We Have A Mom Crush On Rachel Phillips-Luther

(Rachel’s Favorites: 1. The Great Gatsby 2. Food trucks at Klyde Warren 3. J Brand skinnies 4. MAC lustreglass 5. Bolsa)

Who she is: Rachel Phillips-Luther, marketing and PR maven, philanthropist, and mom of four.

Why we love her: In addition to raising four boys(!), Phillips-Luther is the vice president of marketing for Zoës Kitchen and serves on the ‘Boys Committee’ for Young Men’s Service League where she works with high school kids (including her freshman son) to identify service opportunities and teach leadership and life skills. Clearly she’s a powerhouse, and yet, her favorite thing in the world is piling onto a picnic blanket with the family and enjoying some burrata and jam and a great bottle of wine… Clearly she’s our kind of woman.

Herewith a peek into Rachel’s world.

On her iPod: Whatever is on my son Garrett’s iPod (he plays DJ when we’re in the car), otherwise I’m usually on the phone. It’s a great way to multi task when I’m on the move.

What she’s reading: I just finished The Happiness Advantage. I always believed there was a strong correlation between success and happiness, and the research and case studies presented in this book just solidified that. I also just started re-reading The Great Gatsby (wanted to reread before the movie comes out!).

Always in her handbag: I always carry my favorite nude lip gloss, MAC lustreglass in Love Nectar. I also always have a batch of Zoës gift cards so I can share them with people who have never been.

Her uniform: Skinny jeans, T-shirt, and a blazer with a fun scarf or hat, or a shift dress and heels.

Her go-to restaurants: For family dinner, it’s Zoës.  It has always been our go-to. For date night, if we stay close to home its Rick’s Chophouse. Otherwise we love Bolsa and Marquee Grill’s little veranda.

Favorite family outing in Dallas: We discovered an awesome new family fave — A visit to the Nasher, DMA, or the Crow Collection, followed by a walk over to the Klyde Warren Park where we grab a glass of wine and dinner from the food trucks.  It’s such a great way to unwind!  Mike can play football with the older boys, and Chase and Jack love the play area and library.  I love soaking it all in on a blanket in the middle of our beautiful city. It’s my favorite way to spend an afternoon and evening!

Her tip for balancing work and family: Cherish the moments of your day that make you happiest. For me, it could be sharing a bowl of cereal with Chase and him sharing a funny secret or watching one of my employees come up with a great new campaign. I really think that living those moments is critical and helps the stuff that isn’t so fun feel much less significant. Oh and don’t over volunteer. It’s taken me years to figure this one out (and I’m still guilty of it), but overcommitting yourself leads to a crabby mom and crabby kids.

  1. Rachel is an inspiration to me as a Business Women, wife & Mother. Although my daughter is grown and married, Rachel reminds me of how it used to be when she was little.
