D Moms Loves (The Earth Day Edition): Beautycounter, Baggu, Stella McCartney, and Vintage Hermes Scarves

dmom_love
It’s Earth Day friends… What do you say we do a little “Loves” list that would make Mother Nature proud? Herewith our favorite “green finds.”

  1. Beautycounter – I attended a event at Forty Five Ten last week for Beautycounter, a new line of meticulously screened, safe (i.e. containing no dangerous chemicals), effective, and wait for it…chic (chic being somewhat elusive among “green” cosmetics) beauty products and was hugely impressed. The line is gorgeously packaged, their mission is spot on, and the company’s founder, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia veteran Gregg Renfrew, is hugely inspiring. I’m definitely planning to give the entire line a whirl.
  2. Framed Vintage Hermes Scarves — I tend to believe that one of the most effective (not to mention easiest) ways to respect the environment is to buy gorgeous vintage things (or beautiful, well-made new things and then keep them forever). With that in mind, I’m thinking acquiring a vintage Hermes scarf, framing it, and then hanging it in a prominent place in your home as a “have-forever” work of re-purposed art (similar to the one I spotted when I popped by BelAir Home’s new location on Inwood last week) would be more than justifiable, yes?
  3. Stella McCartney “Grace” Sandal — The designer has long been committed to eschewing leather in favor of more humane practices. Her latest crusade? According to her website, “Working to find new and innovative ways to reduces the environmental impact of her collections.” The “Grace” faux python sandal above is one such (completely stylish) example of this initiative…Count me in.
  4. Baggu Bags – These easy, colorful carryalls are the gold standard of reusable shopping bags — light, chic, easy. Buy a slew of these bad boys (online or at the aforementioned BelAir Home), and you’ll never forget to bring your own bag again.
  5. Sprinkles Cupcakes Earth Day Event — Everyone’s favorite purveyor of small frosted cakes is partnering with The Women’s Council of the Dallas Arboretum to celebrate earth day by donating 100% (yep 100%) of proceeds from every vanilla cupcake they sell from April 22-26 to grow and maintain “A Woman’s Garden.” (Like I need another excuse to eat a cupcake, but, ok…I’m in.)
